I was so proud of how he fought his dreaded disease Leukemia (CLL). He never gave up, even coming out of ICU twice and Hospice once, only to return and pass away on July 18, 2003. Unfortunately he was in a game that could not be won. I was fortunate to be a son and player for him. He taught me not only about athletics, but also about life. He's finally free of pain and in a better world. He left a beautiful loving wife of 50 years, 3 heart broken children and 4 grandchildren and many people whom he touched along his journey through life. Like the song played at his memorial:
