GRANDAD'S CAP

In my memory, in my mind
you are always lingering
wearing your three piece suit
and your cap

the cap with the plastic liner inside
that smelled of
your White Owl cigars
and you

and you had whiskers that tickled
when you kissed me
when I sat on your knee

you were always threatening
to knock my block off
and your face crinkled when you smiled
at your little lass
me

and when I ran to meet you
around the corner I would fly
and you would have treats-
a stick of licorice
up your sleeve

I thought you were magical
and now
I wish I still had your cap
and I could wrap my big lass self in your smell
.....anytime, I wanted.

Love Kim
